The Sheriffs' Association of Texas offers scholarships to eligible students pursuing an academic degree at a college or university. In addition to the Sheriffs' Association of Texas scholarships, several others are made available through the generosity of individuals or other organizations. These funds are managed by the Sheriffs' Association of Texas for award to qualified students. The scholarships are awarded once in the Spring Semester and once in the Fall Semester of each year.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLICANTS

  1. Applications must be submitted on the Sheriffs' Association of Texas Application for Youth Scholarship Form with all supporting information attached.
  2. Applications must be received in the Sheriffs' Association of Texas office, post-marked by March 1st each year for the Spring Semester and by October 15th each year for the Fall Semester.
  3. A new application must be submitted for each semester. Only one application per applicant needs be submitted with current supporting information for each semester.
  4. Applicants are only eligible to receive two scholarship awards.
  5. Students applying for scholarships must meet the general requirements of the Sheriffs' Association as well as those set by at least one of the individual funds.

SHERIFFS' ASSOCIATION OF TEXAS REQUIREMENTS

  1. Must be a High School Graduate and have completed at least one semester of college.*
  2. Must be enrolled in a College or University, in an academic course of study, as a full time student during the semester the application is submitted. The general rule will be for 12 semester hours undergraduate, 9 semester hours for graduate students.
  3. Must be less than 25 years of age at time of application.
  4. Must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5.
  5. Must not have been convicted of a crime which would make an individual ineligible for employment in his/her field of study.
  6. Must submit with application a brief biographical sketch and narrative, written in the applicant's own words, stating why the applicant believes he/she is deserving of a scholarship award. May include personal accomplishments, activities and experiences and may not exceed two (2) typewritten, double-spaced pages in length.

    *College Students that took dual credit courses in High School must have comparable to 12 semester hours to be eligible and must be currently enrolled in higher education. Official Transcript from college where dual college courses were taken must be provided. Applications under these circumstances can be submitted the first semester of college.

Sheriffs' Association of Texas Academic Scholarship
A son, daughter or grandchild of a current or former Sheriff, a current Sheriff's Office employee or Peace Officer serving the State of Texas, pursuing a degree

Texas Peacemaker Scholarship
A son, daughter or grandchild of a current or former Sheriff, a current Sheriff's Office employee or Peace Officer serving the State of Texas, pursuing a degree

Sheriff J. R. "Sonny" Sessions Memorial Scholarship
A son, daughter or grandchild of a current or former Sheriff, or current Deputy or Jailer serving the State of Texas, pursuing a degree

Sheriff Allen Bridges Memorial Scholarship
A son, daughter or grandchild of a current or former Sheriff, a current Sheriff's Office employee or Peace Officer serving the State of Texas, pursuing a degree
